Water Well Drilling
Well drilling is the process of drilling a hole in the ground for the extraction of natural sources such as ground water or natural gas. Well drilling can be done manually or mechanically and the equipment used can be extremely complicate. Most drilling techniques use long drill shafts, producing holes that are narrower and deeper than could be formed by digging manually.
An engineer called Ralph Neuhaus invented the tricone bit in 1933 which rotated and turned through the ground and soil to make a well. There are 3 categories for the different drill parts that can be used, and these depend on the ground and soil conditions; the soft, medium and hard formations bits. The soft formation bits are used for sand and clays, the medium formation bits are used for calcites, dolomites and hard shale and the hard formations bits are used in shale, mudstones, cherty limestone’s and abrasive formations.
The first ever wells to be made are the water wells. They date back to 8100-7500 BC during the Neolithic period. Nowadays water is removed from well using electric submersible pump or a mechanical pump.
